CBS Labs Toxicology Tests for Benzodiazepines screens for a class of drugs called benzodiazepines or their break-down products, called metabolites. Benzodiazepines are often prescribed for the treatment of anxiety and sleep disorders, as sedatives prior to surgical and medical procedures, and as part of the treatment of seizure disorders. However, these central nervous system depressants can be highly addictive in some people, sometimes leading from a medical use to illegal abuse. Abuse can lead to strong addictions, and in combination with other depressants, such as alcohol, can be fatal.
Since benzodiazepines are a very complex and diverse group of compounds which are extensively metabolized in urine, it can be challenging to determine the parent drug without precise testing. At CBS Labs we analyze the presence of benzodiazepines with immunoassay methods such as EIA, RIA, and FPIA. These class specific techniques detect common metabolites, and other structurally similar benzodiazepines.
CBS Labs’ toxicology testing staff is available for consultation and can provide any additional information necessary to ensure the best outcomes for your patient. Please note that when ordering test for which Medicare or Medicaid reimbursement will be sought, physicians should only order tests that are medically necessary for the diagnosis or treatment of the patient.
